Our Mission

To empower children in underserved communities to feel prepared, supported, and brave during medical visits through pediatric comfort kits with educational resources and coping tools.

Hi, I’m Julia Kaplan, the founder of BRAVE Kit.

I’m a high school senior with a passion for healthcare, communication, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of children. I created BRAVE Kit because I believe children deserve to feel prepared, supported, and empowered when they receive medical care.

For many children, routine needle experiences like vaccinations and blood draws can feel overwhelming. I wanted to create something that could give children tools to manage those feelings while also helping parents and caregivers know how to support them.

That idea became the BRAVE Kit — Building Resilience And Vital Education.

Each kit combines distraction activities, calming tools, educational resources, and encouraging messages designed to help children understand what they may experience, practice coping strategies, and communicate what helps them feel comfortable. My goal is to bring these kits to pediatric clinics and healthcare organizations, particularly in underserved communities where accessible child-centered resources can make an even greater difference.

As I build BRAVE Kit, I am also learning how important healthcare communication and problem-solving are. I hope to listen to children, parents, and healthcare professionals to continue developing resources that respond to their needs.

This has grown into a mission I’m incredibly passionate about, and I’m excited to see where BRAVE Kits go next! Sometimes, a little support is all it takes to find a little courage. 🧸💗
